Jim and Ellie Newton Children's Literature Center
The Jim and Ellie Newton Children’s Literature Center was established 14 years ago to provide sets of books for teachers to check out and use in their classrooms.
The Newton’s made a generous contribution to establish the Literature Center, which currently features more than 300 sets of books. The books range from stories for early readers, to titles for children in later elementary and middle school grades and has expanded to high school.
Each year teachers submit a list of new books that they would like added to the Center's collection. The Literature Center not only has the classics for the children such as "The Adventures of Tim Sawyer," but more recently published books for every level of reading.
Sadly, we lost Ellie Newton but our students and teachers are fortunate to be the beneficiaries of the legacy they established at the Children’s Literature Center. It has grown to reach out to thousands of students over the years and touched them with the joy of reading. Further, it has helped the Lee County School District in reaching its goal of improving reading scores and having every student reading on grade level.
